NotesIn the winters of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, the California and Oregon coasts saw a mysterious and disturbing die-off of brown pelicans. There were high numbers of stranded birds suffering from malnutrition, and high numbers of dead birds on the beaches. This report addresses these two events. "...observers noted pelicans sheltering in the lagoons and estuaries near Bay Ocean Spit and Netarts Bay, OR." (p.7) "In recent years, areas near Tillamook and Netarts in northern Oregon have documented 1-2 orders of magnitude more pelicans carcasses than all other surveyed locations along the OR coast." (p.25) Available from academia.edu. "Final Report: July 7, 2011."
