Notes"In this chapter, we attempt to lay out a conceptual framework for indicator selection germane to the West Coast estuaries, including those studied extensively by PNCERS researchers. In the latter half of the chapter we offer an annotated list of candidate indicators for each of the three system components: the physical environment, the socio-economic system, and the the biological system. A concurrent table presents all candidate indicators, their constituent measures and proxies (if appropriate) and the relevant estuarine types within which the indicators are valuable. . . " (p.1-2)
