Notes | Examines effects of dredging on a foundation of the estuarine food chain, zooplankton. Compares Yaquina and Netarts Bays, noting that Yaquina Bay has a zooplankton bloom in the summer, while Netarts Bay does not. Most animals in Netarts Bay are flushed out daily with the tides. Notes that dredging would probably be less harmful in Netarts Bay. "In regions where plankton are continually renewed from ocean sources as in the Netarts Bay example there is little likelihood of harming an important part of the population [by dredging]." (p.462) |
