NotesThis is a look at institutional responses to rapid environmental change. The authors argue that a narrative, including readily identifiable participants who suffer documented economic losses, can help policy-makers make positive changes. The shocking oyster mortalities experienced by the oyster hatchery at Whiskey Creek and the response to ocean acidification by the State of Washington is used a test case to show the power of a good narrative. “It seems that yet-untold narratives may hold similar potential for strengthening the feedback between environmental data and policy and motivating regional responses to other environmental problems.” (from the Abstract) Available online through PubMed.
