NotesIchnology is the study of the traces animals leave behind them as they interact with the environment. Ichnology is primarily the study of trace fossils, which adds a dimension to the study of the paleoenvironment. Neoichnology is the study of contemporary traces. Information gleaned about traces left behind in the here-and-now can help inform understanding of traces in the fossil record. This M.S. thesis is a fascinating account of traces found along numerous transects throughout Netarts Bay. Illustrated with color photographs and charts, this thesis offers a rewarding look at the traces of animals’ presences in a dynamic marine environment.
